| The wee woodland
critters who gambol about these parts in fecund abundance made themselves
scarce toward the end of summer, and a surfeit of predators seemed a likely
cause... Sure enough, no sooner had the thought leapt to my mind than this
handsome marauder descended into a nearby tree, from which perch he surveyed
the yard with martial command.
A few weeks
later I saw another hawk land on the sidewalk of an urban Interstate exit
ramp with a limp pigeon in its beak, and yet another perching on a lamp
post over the highway - it seems to have been a hawkish season. |
